Welcome to Zhen's website
My name is Zhen Zhu. I am a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Prof. Chris G. Van de Walle's group in Materials Department at University of California, Santa Barbara. I am interested in energy storage, nanotechnology and nano-materials. My research focuses mainly on using theoretical methods (including density functional theory, tight-binding methods and empirical models) to study novel electronic and structural properties of complex oxides, low dimensional nano-materials like nanotubes, nanowires and 2D materials.
I obtained my Ph.D in Theoretical Physics at Michigan State University under the guidance of Prof. David Tomanek, with whom I have conducted extensive research on low-dimensional materials, including novel carbon nanomaterials, group V elemental semiconductors and their isoelectronic counterparts.
